Dubbo Chamber of Commerce and Industry is urging business owners and members of the public to nominate the businesses and individuals they believe deserve recognition in the Orana Mutual 2013 Rhino Awards.
Chamber President, Andrew Toole said that with the theme Flying High, this year’s awards would celebrate success, business excellence and the high future that the Chamber believes lies ahead for Dubbo.
Mr Toole said nominations were now open for 18 awards categories, including seven categories that focus on recognising the individuals who are excelling this year. Two of those awards are new categories for young business people in business who are between 18 and 35 years of age.
“We always acknowledge one civic leader by adding a name each year to the Jean Emile Serisier Roll of Honour, but this year we are also looking for nominations to recognise one Young Entrepreneur and a Young Business Executive who is achieving success in their field,” he said.
“Chamber recognises that the emerging generation of business operators are savvy individuals who will help this region grow and develop and it’s important that we acknowledge them.”
Awards that acknowledge individual contributions this year will be presented for the following:
- Apprentice of the Year
- Trainee of the Year
- Employee of the Year
- Excellence in Business Ethics
- Young Entrepreneur (18-35 year old)
- Young Business Executive (18-35 year old)
- Jean Emile Serisier Roll of Honour (Business Leader).
The Young Entrepreneur award will be presented to an inspirational young person who has shown commitment and passion to build and operates a successful business of their own. This award recognises young business leaders who demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, strategic direction and innovative ideas that will inspire a new generation of young business people.
Chamber’s 2012 Jean Emile Serisier inductee, Kevin Saul encouraged community members to take the time to nominate people who deserve recognition and encouragement for their efforts.
“It’s important that we acknowledge the efforts of the next generation of business leaders and provide them with the support and encouragement they need to continue to be a part of our region’s success,” Mr Saul said.
“It’s important that we acknowledge the efforts of the next generation of business leaders and provide them with the support and encouragement they need to continue to be a part of our region’s success,” Mr Saul said.
“Those of us who have been involved in business for many years can help nurture the next generation, while I am sure we can also learn from their enthusiasm and the innovative way many of them approach the integration of technology into everyday business interactions.”
Mr Saul said he was particularly humbled and honoured when he was recognised by Chamber at last year’s Rhino Awards.
“After the initial shock, I saw my award as recognition for the amazing team that supports me every day and for the role my family has played in the development of my career.
“Without them, I would not be in a position to make a contribution to this community and to help ensure Dubbo is a vibrant place for people to live, work and do business.”
Nomination forms for the Orana Mutual 2013 Rhino Awards can be downloaded from Chamber’s website: www.dubbochamber.com.au

The winners of the 19th annual Rhino Awards will be announced at a gala presentation evening on Friday 18 October.
An information session will be held for award nominees on 30 May 2013 to give an insight to what the judges will be looking for in successful entries.
